Pollux b, also known as Beta Geminorum b (β Gem b / β Geminorum b) and HD 62509 b, is an extrasolar planet approximately 34 light-years away in the constellation of Gemini (the Twins). This planet was discovered orbiting the star Pollux in 2006 by astronomer Artie P. Hatzes, confirming his hypothesis originally published in 1993. The planet has a comparable mass to the gas giants in our solar system. It moves around Pollux in 1.61 years at a distance of 1.64 AU in a nearly circular orbit. The planet is one of those selected by the International Astronomical Union as part of their public process for giving proper names to exoplanets.〔(NameExoWorlds: An IAU Worldwide Contest to Name Exoplanets and their Host Stars ). IAU.org. 9 July 2014〕〔(NameExoWorlds ).〕 The process involves public nomination and voting for the new name, and the IAU plans to announce the new name in mid-November 2015.〔(NameExoWorlds ).〕 == References == * * * 抄文引用元・出典: フリー百科事典『 ウィキペディア(Wikipedia)』 ■ウィキペディアで「Pollux b」の詳細全文を読む スポンサード リンク
